Emalahleni – Seven people lost their lives in a head-on collision on the N12 between Ogies and Emalahleni on Monday morning, authorities confirmed. The crash involved a sedan carrying five passengers, including two women and three men, and a light delivery vehicle with two male occupants.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison reported that all seven victims died instantly. Preliminary accounts suggest that one of the vehicles veered off the road, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with the oncoming vehicle. Officials suspect excessive speed may have contributed to the crash, given the wide median separating the two directions of travel.
Police, the Road Traffic Management Corporation, and the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison have launched a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities noted that reckless or negligent driving cannot be ruled out.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, urged motorists to drive cautiously to prevent further loss of life and injuries. He reminded drivers to adhere to road regulations at all times.
