Dakar, Senegal – The first-ever West African Festival of Arts and Culture (ECOFEST 2025) concluded on Friday, December 5, at the Daniel Sorano National Theatre in Dakar, Senegal. The closing ceremony, presided over by Senegal’s Minister of Culture, Crafts, and Tourism, Mr. Amadou Ba, marked the end of a vibrant week of cultural festivities under the theme “Political mutations and crises in West Africa: what role can culture play?”
The event saw the presentation of various awards to artists and contributors, celebrating the role of culture in addressing political and social issues facing the region. Among the distinguished attendees were Senegal’s Secretary of State for Culture, Creative Industries, and Historical Heritage, Mr. Bakary Sarr; ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, Prof. Fatou Sow Sarr; and UEMOA Commissioner for Human Development, Mr. Mamadu Serifo Jaquite.
