Mbabane – The government spokesperson, Alpheous Nxumalo said the Prime Minister’s Office must be held in utmost accountability for its the highest office in the government by being made by the courts to pay the costs of his lawsuit.
Nxumalo is suing the civil service for non-payment of salary for the months of October and November 2025.
He said in his court papers he is entitled to recover costs for this application.
“…not only because of the First and Third Respondents’ dereliction of duty but also because the default is done by the highest office in the government,” Nxumalo said.
He said the Prime Minister’s office has this duty to hold all ministries accountable to it for the due performance of their various ministerial functions.
Nxumalo said the office must therefore lead by example and show everybody else that ‘they are willing to abide by their contractual duty and they value the sanctity of employment contracts.’
Nxumalo said he first inquired from the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, Bheki Bhembe, about his salary but was ignored. He also said the Accountant General, Nomsa B. Simelane, also ignored him.
“This attitude and apparent indifference to my legitimate concerns deserves censure by this Honorable court. The nonpayment of the salary compounded with the indifference of the First Respondent justify the grant of legal costs at punitive scale for this court to show its disapproval of such breaches of contractual duty by the employer,” he said.
