Johannesburg – The Jaecoo J5 has made a significant impact in the southern African automotive market, selling 226 units in South Africa during its first full month in October 2025. This performance contributed to Omoda and Jaecoo achieving a monthly record of 1,311 units, surpassing its previous best of 1,202 units set in August 2025. Early registrations of the J5 included 103 units in August, prior to its official launch, and 200 units in September, bringing the model’s total sales to 529 units since its introduction in mid-September 2025
During October, the J5 outsold the Jaecoo J7, which recorded 180 units, and the flagship Omoda C9, which sold 56 units. The Omoda C5 remained the division’s top performer, registering 849 units, or 64.8 percent of total monthly sales

The J5 range consists of three derivatives, Vortex, Glacier, and Inferno, each powered by a turbocharged 1.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine producing 115 kW and 230 Nm. All models come with a continuously variable transmission that sends power to the front wheels. Pricing for the range starts with the J5 1.5T Vortex at R379 900, with a limited-time launch special reducing it to R369 900. The J5 1.5T Glacier is priced at R439 900, with a temporary offer of R429 900, and the top-spec J5 1.5T Inferno is R479 900
Measuring 4 380 mm in length with a 2 620 mm wheelbase, the five-seater J5 offers 480 litres of luggage space, expandable to 1 284 litres with the rear seats folded. Its dimensions place it slightly smaller than the J7 and comparable to the Chery Tiggo Cross. The crossover features a bold front grille flanked by slim headlights, squared-off wheel arches, and a rear light bar. The Vortex and Glacier ride on 17 inch alloy wheels, while the Inferno comes with 18 inch alloys. LED headlights are standard on the Glacier and Inferno trims

The interior of the J5 is equipped with a range of comfort and technology features. The Vortex includes automatic wipers and headlights, black cloth seats, a 13.2 inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, power-adjustable side mirrors, an eight inch digital driver cluster, and a four speaker audio system. The Glacier trim upgrades to leather seats, a power-adjustable driver seat, and a six speaker sound system. The Inferno adds dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, wireless charging, and an eight speaker Jaecoo audio system

Safety features across the range include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability program, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, hill descent control, traction control, and ISOFIX child seat attachments. Dual front and front side airbags are standard, with the Glacier and Inferno adding side curtain airbags. Advanced driver assistance systems include a reverse camera, 540-degree panoramic view, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, traffic jam assist, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, forward vehicle departure reminder, and rear collision warning among others

The J5 comes with a comprehensive after-sales package including a five-year 75 000 km service plan, a five-year 150 000 km warranty, and a 10-year one million km engine warranty for the first owner, plus five years of roadside assistance
