Mbabane – Ford’s next generation Ranger, a long standing favourite on Eswatini’s roads, is gearing up for major changes when the refreshed models arrive in Southern Africa next year. The automaker released early details after confirming the update earlier this month, outlining new engines, revised trims and wider access to its powerful V6 engines.
The updated range mirrors the version unveiled in Australia, where Rangers are sourced from Thailand. One of the biggest developments is the discontinuation of the 2.0 bi turbodiesel that delivered 154 kW and 500 Nm. It will be replaced by the 2.3 EcoBoost petrol engine, already well known in North America and the Middle East, and also shared with the Volkswagen Amarok. Producing 222 kW and 452 Nm, it remains paired with the 10 speed automatic gearbox co developed with General Motors and will be available only in rear wheel drive for this region.
The single turbo diesel continues with unchanged power at 125 kW and 405 Nm, but now uses a timing chain instead of a belt. The 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel retains its 184 kW and 600 Nm output, and the high performance twin turbo V6 in the Ranger Raptor remains at 292 kW and 583 Nm. The 10 speed automatic becomes the sole automatic transmission across the line up.
Ford confirmed that the XL stays as the entry option for single cabs, while the Sport trim joins the SuperCab and double cab for the first time. The Wildtrak X package no longer stands as a separate model and now becomes an optional add on under the Wildtrak range.
Manual gearboxes remain only in XL single and double cabs. The V6 diesel sees major expansion, now offered in models that previously relied on the bi turbo, including the Tremor and the Wildtrak SuperCab. Sport derivatives also allow buyers to choose the V6.
The Wolftrak variant seen in Australia will not be introduced locally, and neither will the Ranger Super Duty. Pricing is expected early next year ahead of sales beginning in the first half of 2026. The confirmed structure for the Southern African market, including Eswatini, is below:
