Sandleni – Residents of Sandleni in the Shiselweni region have regained a vital access route after the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development’s Microprojects Programme officially handed over the newly constructed Dlomodlomo Low Level Crossing. The route had been unusable since 1984, forcing communities to take long detours to reach schools, clinics and social gatherings.
The restored crossing features reinforced concrete structures and a 600 metre concrete paved section designed to support safer and more reliable access throughout the year. Community members say the upgrade will ease daily movement and remove transport challenges that have affected the area for nearly four decades.
The E8 million project forms part of more than E41 million in infrastructure delivered in Sandleni and Mtsambama over the past two years. These developments include the Mbokodvwane Low Level Crossing at E7.6 million, Emetamo Low Level Crossing at E4 million, the Gwegwe to Mhlabuyaduma Road at E17 million and the Gwegwe Community Hall at E4 million.
During the handover ceremony, local MPs and Microprojects officials thanked residents for their cooperation and their 10 percent contribution to the project. They encouraged communities to continue applying for development support through the Regional Development Fund, which backs initiatives driven by local needs.
Officials noted that coordination between the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, the Microprojects Programme and the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development was central to delivering the new crossing now serving the Sandleni community.
