Rabat – Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, following an exceptional season with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the Moroccan national team. The right-back’s performance across both club and international football has been nothing short of outstanding, earning him the prestigious title at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards held in Rabat, Morocco.
Hakimi played a key role in PSG’s historic treble-winning season, which included a UEFA Champions League title, French Ligue 1, and the Coupe de France. During the 2024/25 campaign, he contributed 8 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, and from January to October 2025, his combined tally for PSG and Morocco stood at 9 goals and 11 assists. He also made history as the first Moroccan, and seventh African, to score in a UEFA Champions League final.
The 27-year-old’s dynamic and versatile style of play, both defensively solid and offensively dangerous, has redefined the expectations for modern full-backs. His contributions in Morocco’s successful qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup further solidified his status as one of Africa’s top footballers.
Hakimi triumphed over stiff competition, with Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen finishing second and third, respectively.
The 2025 CAF awards also saw Ghizlaine Chebbak of Morocco win the Women’s Player of the Year title. Chebbak, who joined Al Hilal after a successful spell at Levante Badalona, was pivotal in Morocco’s performance at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she claimed the Golden Boot. She became the first Moroccan player to win this prestigious award.
Other notable winners included Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who won the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third consecutive time, and Cape Verde’s Bubista, named Men’s Coach of the Year.
