Denver, Colorado – A woman at the center of a viral incident involving Nigerian artist Burna Boy has shared her side of the story, revealing the emotional exhaustion behind her brief moment of sleep during his Colorado concert.
The incident, which took place at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, sparked controversy after Burna Boy stopped his performance upon noticing the woman, Chaltu Jateny, seemingly asleep in the front row. His decision to have security escort her and her companion out of the venue drew mixed reactions from the crowd and quickly spread across social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X.
Chaltu, in an emotional TikTok post, described how deeply humiliating and embarrassing the incident was for her and her boyfriend. She explained that her fatigue stemmed from the recent death of her daughter’s father, a tragedy that had left her mentally, physically, and emotionally drained.
“I have been mentally, physically and emotionally drained since my daughter’s dad passed away, and I came to his show to put a smile on my face after everything that has happened,” Chaltu wrote.
She expressed frustration over Burna Boy’s handling of the situation, criticizing him for not checking on her well-being before making the decision to have her removed. “Burna Boy could’ve handled that situation better than that. He had no idea what was going on with me and he didn’t even care to ask if I was ok,” she said.
Chaltu added that the long wait for the delayed show, combined with her exhaustion, made it difficult for her to stay awake. “He took forever to come out and I was tired,” she said. “We paid to be there, and if I wanted to close my eyes and sleep, I can do that; it is my money that I wasted, not his.”
Her post has sparked a wave of sympathy online, with many fans urging kindness and understanding. In closing, Chaltu encouraged others to be more compassionate: “How about showing kindness because you never know what someone is going through.”
