Matsanjeni – About 540 people in the Lubombo region died of HIV/AIDS related conditions in 2024.
This was disclosed on Friday by the National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA) during the Lubombo regional World AIDS Day at Matsanjeni North.
NERCHA Board Chairperson, Nsika Fakudze said about 39 000 people in the region are living with HIV where 22 984 are women while 16 139 are men.
“On top of that, the statistics show that 540 people have died through HIV/AIDS-related deaths in the year 2024. Although ARVs suppress the virus and people seemingly religiously on ART, the numbers are showing that we are still behind,” Fakudze said.
