Mbabane – The Ministry of Health has confirmed that Eswatini is now prepared to apply for the World Health Organisation (WHO) validation under the Path to Elimination (PTE) programme.
A team of specialists from the ministry’s Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) departments spent the week collaborating with experts from UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, and UNAIDS in a detailed review of data related to the elimination of mother-to-child transmission (eMTCT) of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B.
The four-day technical workshop focused on assessing the quality, completeness, and consistency of Eswatini’s health data. The engagement was part of the wider Triple Elimination Agenda, a regional effort supported by WHO, UNICEF, and UNAIDS to help countries reach the goal of eradicating these infections.
According to the ministry, the sessions received additional technical support from UNICEF headquarters in New York and the organisation’s regional office.
Officials reported that the outcome confirmed Eswatini’s readiness to proceed with the WHO validation process. The next phase will focus on addressing minor data gaps and improving analytical capacity within both national and subnational health systems.
