Eswatini confirmed three (3) deaths, 36 new cases in one day

Mbabane: The death toll has increased to 11 as three (3) deaths reported on Sunday.

Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi has sadly announced three (3) COVID-19 related deaths. Nkosi revealed that death number nine (9) was a 59 year old man from Manzini Region who died at one of the country’s hospitals while in isolation and before COVID-19 results were released. He presented with severe respiration illness with pre-existing conditions and rapidly deteriorated before being confirmed COVID-19 illness.

Death number 10 was a 60 year old male from Hhohho region, he presented mild disease, however rapidly progressed to severe disease while undergoing treatment at Lubombo Referral Hospital. He had confirmed COVID-19 disease complicated by pre-existing illnesses.

Death number 11 was also a 60 year old man from Hhohho region, who presented with moderate condition which later became severe. He has been under intensive care unit (ICU) for 14 days on  ventilation until his demise due to COVID-19 disease and other co-morbidities.

Minister Nkosi said 10 of the 11 deaths had either been newly diagnosed with one or more of the co-existing medical conditions like diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiac disease and asthma. Nkosi therefore urged the public who might have this aforementioned diseases to adhere to all health measures given by health workers.

Nkosi encouraged the public more men as 9 of the deaths are males, to do medical check ups at least once a year.

The Minister went on to announce that the number of confirmed cases in Eswatini has increased to 781 as a total of 36 new cases confirmed on Sunday. Nkosi said the number of active cases now stands at 362 as 376 of the total cases has recovered and discharged.

Nkosi encouraged the public to adhere to all health measures given by the ministry of health and World Health Organization, this includes regular washing of hands with running water and soap, practicing social distancing and wearing masks whenever going to out and urged those who are not going anywhere to stay at home.
