Johannesburg – The MG ZS Pro has been unveiled as an upgraded version of the ZS compact SUV, offering more modern design, greater power, and advanced technology, according to a report by Citizen Motoring. Availability in Eswatini has not yet been confirmed.

The ZS Pro is positioned above the existing ZS, which remains in production as an affordable option, while the Pro targets a more premium segment. MG Motor South Africa’s head of marketing, Christo Valentyn, said the ZS will continue to be sold for at least six months while stock lasts.

Under the hood, the ZS Pro replaces the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine from the HS, delivering 125kW of power and 275Nm of torque to the front wheels via a CVT. MG claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds and consume just 6.9 litres per 100km.

Dimensionally, the ZS Pro is larger than the ZS, measuring 4 340mm long, 1 818mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2 610mm. Exterior upgrades include a wide-frame grille, Predator Eye LED headlights, geometric LED taillights, sporty spoiler, silver roof rails, and 17- to 18-inch alloy wheels. Colour options include York White, Pearl Black, Blade Silver, Flare Red, Hamstead Grey, St Moritz Blue, and a distinctive green reserved for a future model.

The interior offers a soft-touch dashboard, perforated simulated leather seats with contrast stitching, and more rear head and legroom. Boot capacity increases from 359 to 443 litres. Standard features include a 7-inch part-digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electronic parking brake, rear sensors, and a reverse camera. The Luxury model adds electric driver seat adjustment, heated front seats, 12.3-inch dual display, and panoramic electric sunroof with curtain.

Safety comes via four airbags, electronic stability program, hill-hold control, and tyre pressure monitoring on the Comfort model, while the Luxury variant includes six airbags and MG Pilot advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and a 360-degree camera.

Pricing for the South African market starts at R397 600 for the Comfort model and R431 500 for the Luxury, including a seven-year/200 000km warranty and five-year/60 000km service plan.

Citizen Motoring praised the CVT transmission and overall road performance during a launch drive from Lanseria Airport to Magaliesburg, describing the handling as solid and suspension comfortable on imperfect surfaces.

Valentyn noted that buyers now have more choice in the competitive compact SUV segment, with the ZS Pro offering a premium alternative without straying from value.
