Praia — Cape Verde secured their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification after defeating Eswatini 3–0 in their final Group D match on Monday.
The Blue Sharks, who hosted the fixture, went into the decisive encounter needing a win to confirm their spot at the 2026 World Cup. After a goalless opening half, Cape Verde found their rhythm early in the second half. Dailo Livramento opened the scoring in the 48th minute before Willy Semedo doubled the lead six minutes later.
Eswatini struggled to contain the hosts’ momentum, and Stopira sealed the victory with a third goal in stoppage time. The result capped off a dominant campaign for Cape Verde, who finished top of Group D with 23 points after seven wins, two draws and one loss.
