Mbabane – The Royal Eswatini Police Service has welcomed the sentencing of 51 year old Carlos Nhambombe, who was given 48 years in prison for repeatedly raping minors in Mbabane.
Nhambombe preyed on girls between the ages of twelve and fifteen, monitoring their movements at the Mbabane Bus Rank before luring them away with promises of money or domestic jobs. He would then take them to Checkers where he committed the offences.
The crimes, which shocked the capital, were carried out over a period of about three years before his arrest in December 2012. His capture came after one of the survivors recognised him while at a health institution in Mbabane.
Police credited the work of the investigation team, which included the late Sergeant Hlengiwe Dlamini, retired Sergeant Sibongile Dlamini and Detective Constable Zweli Dlamini. Their efforts were described as instrumental in securing justice for the survivors.
The police said they remain committed to tackling gender based violence and protecting the nation.
