Mbabane – The Eswatini Institute of Accountants (ESIA) has announced the launch of the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Sector Accounting, describing it as a milestone towards professionalising public sector financial management. The programme was officially introduced on Monday, 22 September 2025.
The qualification is being delivered through the Africa Professionalisation Initiative in partnership with the Pan African Federation of Accountants. It is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the practical demands of public sector accounting and auditing. Its aim is to improve accountability, efficiency and transparency in the management of public resources, which are critical for good governance and sustainable development.
Speaking during the launch, the Accountant General, who also serves on the ESIA Council, said the course responds directly to a long-standing need. “This course is a direct and practical solution to a long-recognized need, equipping students to be the future leaders of public financial management in Eswatini,” he said.
ESIA Executive Director added that the programme is an investment in the future of public finance, stressing that professionalising public sector accounting will empower a new generation of experts to safeguard resources and strengthen accountability within government institutions.
The first intake consists of 120 students who have already begun their studies. ESIA congratulated the cohort, noting that their dedication will play a key role in shaping the future of financial governance in the Kingdom.
