Harare – A new luxury train linking Harare and Mutare arrived in Harare today, launched through a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, and the National Railways of Zimbabwe under the Mutapa Investment Fund. The train can carry 243 passengers and is expected to enhance travel ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Kumbanayi Tourism Expo set for 10 to 12 September 2025.

Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Barbara Rwodzi was present for the train’s arrival and praised the coordination between government agencies and industry stakeholders. She noted the service will improve connectivity to the scenic Eastern Highlands while offering visitors a comfortable travel experience.
A test run from Chegutu to Harare included officials from the Ministry, the National Railways of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, tourism leaders, and key stakeholders, allowing them to experience the train’s facilities firsthand. Paul Matamisa, Chief Executive Officer of the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe, said the service will expand travel options, support the Tourism Expo, and strengthen Zimbabwe’s tourism sector by opening new avenues for exploration.
