JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid tribute to renowned journalist Tshidi Madia following her death on Wednesday at the age of 42 after a brief illness.
In a Twitter post, Ramaphosa expressed his condolences to Madia’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing her as a journalist, political commentator, radio host, and moderator who worked tirelessly for South Africa. “Tshidi loved our country and this was the backdrop to her tough questions and her hopeful vision of a South Africa that can and should be better,” he wrote.
The President added that Madia’s passing during Women’s Month reminds the nation of her stature as an outstanding woman and a remarkable citizen. He said her “silent pen and voice” will remain in the memories and hearts of those she inspired.
Madia’s work at Eyewitness News, where she served as associate editor for politics, earned her recognition for fearless reporting, mentorship, and dedication to telling South Africa’s stories.
