Ezulwini – First Eswatini Air female pilot Samukelisiwe Tembe is furthering aviation studies at the Arizona State University following being awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship by the United States of America (U.S) Embassy in Eswatini.
Tembe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the University of Eswatini and earned her Frozen Airline Transport Pilot License from Qatar Aeronautical College in 2019. She currently serves as a First Officer on the Embraer 145 with Eswatini Air.
Through the Fulbright Scholarship, she will pursue a Master of Science in Technology in Aviation Management and Human Factors at Arizona State University. Her studies will focus on leadership development, airline operations, and innovative aviation technologies.
In addition, Terence Buhle Gama, a nurse and graduate of Southern Africa Nazarene University, has also been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. Terence will pursue a Master’s in Public Health, Epidemiology at Georgia State University.
The Fulbright Scholarship, established in 1946, is the U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange program designed to foster mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.
It provides grants to thousands of U.S. and foreign students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals each year to study, teach, and conduct research abroad or in the U.S.
The program is merit-based and aims to build connections and advance knowledge across global communities.
Lindelwa Lukhele is another 2025 Fulbright Scholarship recipient. She is pursuing a Master of Science in Food Safety and Microbiology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
Lukhele has nearly a decade of experience in the sugar industry and worked as laboratory manager to ensure product quality and compliance with food safety standards.
“Upon my return, I look forward to playing a key role in strengthening national food safety systems and contributing to healthier, safer communities,” she is quoted as having said.
