MBABANE – The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has ordered a recall of certain Nissan and Citroen vehicles after discovering potential battery and airbag defects that could endanger drivers and passengers.
Nissan’s Qashqai models sold from September 2021 to April 2024 are being recalled due to a possible fault in the HR13 Non-Alis EGI harness battery connection. Officials said an incorrectly assembled harness nut could loosen, causing heat build-up under certain driving conditions.
Citroen owners of the C4, DS4, and DS5 models sold between 2009 and 2016 are also affected. Stellantis South Africa identified a defect in the driver’s airbag inflator that could rupture during deployment, sending metal fragments into the cabin and posing serious injury risks.
The NCC advised all affected vehicle owners to take their cars to the nearest authorised dealership for inspection and repairs.
The recall follows a separate announcement by Ford Motor Company Southern Africa (FMCSA), which is addressing safety issues in 21,777 vehicles across the SADC region. Among them, the 2025 Ford Ranger Wildtrak faces a transmission valve problem that may prevent reverse motion and cause unexpected forward movement, with warning lights activating on the dashboard.
Ford’s larger recall also covers Ranger, Mustang, EcoSport, Everest, and Transit Custom models due to potential errors in the SYNC system and infotainment screen freezes. Vehicle owners can verify whether their Ford is affected by entering their VIN on FMCSA’s official recall portal.
