CHICAGO – South African mixed martial arts star Dricus du Plessis earned over R52 million despite losing his UFC middleweight title to Khamzat Chimaev of the United Arab Emirates during UFC 319 at the United Centre in Chicago over the weekend.
According to Livemint.com, Du Plessis, popularly known as Stillknocks, received a $3 million payout, which included a $1 million base purse as the reigning champion, plus additional earnings from Pay-Per-View sales and promotional bonuses.
Had he successfully defended his title, his total earnings would have increased by another $500,000, equivalent to about R8.8 million.
