Mbabane- Public Sector Unions (PSUs) have declared that they also want to benefit from the newly announced 3% salary adjustment awarded to the armed forces.
According to Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Secretary General Lot Vilakati, government recently announced a 3% salary cushion for security forces, backdated by 24 months. This adjustment should not be exclusive, Vilakati said.
He wants this agenda item in the ongoing Joint Negotiation Forum (JNF) salary talks on Wednesday.
Vilakati said the unions had already declared interest in the 4% increment awarded to the armed forces in 2022, and with the additional 3% announced, the total now stands at 7%.
He stressed that PSUs would make it a point that government extends the same benefits to all civil servants and ensures payment according to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) salary scale.
Meanwhile, government has confirmed that the salary review consultation has been finalised.
The consultant delivered the report to the Ministry of Public Service, and the Government Negotiations Team (GNT) is expected to table it at the next JNF meeting on Wednesday.
Vilakati said PSU members would only be briefed about the report’s contents once it has been presented at the forum.
