Johannesburg – GWM’s updated Haval H6 mid-sized SUV has debuted in South Africa, bringing refreshed styling, added technology, and a more powerful 2.0-litre engine, with a potential arrival in Eswatini pending local confirmation.
The facelifted model features exterior and interior upgrades alongside a powertrain enhancement. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine now produces 170kW and 380Nm of torque, up from 150kW/320Nm, with power delivered through a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels.
During tests, the SUV showed brisk acceleration between 1 700 and 4 000rpm, although low-speed throttle responsiveness required careful input in traffic. Fuel consumption averaged around 12 L/100km, higher than the manufacturer’s claim of 8.3 L/100km.
The all-wheel-drive H6 adds Sand and Off-Road driving modes to the standard Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow settings. These are accessible via the car’s menu or a configurable steering-wheel button.

Inside, the cabin offers a 14.6-inch infotainment screen paired with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. The gear selector has moved to a steering-column stalk, creating a minimalist centre console with wireless phone charging, cup holders, and storage. Ultra Luxury trims include heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a nine-speaker audio system, and head-up display.
Safety features cover automatic park assist, a 540-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and emergency reverse braking. The exterior shows a new chrome grille, LED headlights, vertical fog lamps, redesigned tailgate lights, and the GWM logo replacing the Haval badge.
With 19-inch black alloys, roof rails, and a 560-litre boot, the updated H6 competes strongly in the South African C-SUV segment. Local buyers in Eswatini will need to await confirmation from GWM’s Eswatini distributor for its availability.
