Mbabane -The Government of Eswatini is set to spend approximately E230 million annually on Phase II of the salary adjustment program. This development follows a collective agreement signed between the Government and staff associations of the Royal Eswatini Police Service and His Majesty’s Correctional Services.
The announcement was made by Mthunzi Shabangu, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, during a press briefing held at the Cabinet Offices earlier today. According to Shabangu, the estimated E230 million will cover two major components. Firstly, over 952 security officers are set to receive professional adjustments, which include an 8% once-off backpay.
This segment is expected to cost the government around E57 million annually.Secondly, approximately 13,199 officers will benefit from a 3% salary increment, which also includes a once-off backpay. This portion of the adjustment is projected to cost about E171 million per year.
The combined cost of E228 million is in line with the overall estimated annual expenditure of E230 million. Shabangu further clarified that this salary adjustment does not exclude security officers from the ongoing salary review exercise currently underway.
