PIGGS PEAK – Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini has pledged the House support for Prime Minister (PM) Russell Mmiso Dlamini’s 30-year ambitious national transformation plan.
Speaking at the Piggs Peak Hotel, the Senate President said they were backing the vision and would participate in its implementation.
“Our role as senators is primarily oversight. We will engage in discussions and debates, but we will not oppose the plan because we recognize its importance,” she stated.
Having previously met with Members of the House of Assembly, the PM said for months, there has been a wide range of consultations and benchmarking in drafting the 30-year-old plan while requesting for constructive feedback.
He said the draft plan is beyond the normal five-year strategy and is ambitious, innovative as well as realistic.
“Eswatini has made significant progress through successive development plans, including the National Development Strategy, the National Development Plan, and sectoral master plans,” the PM said.
He said the plan aims to achieve its objective of stimulating interest amongst intellectuals and attracting people’s participation for economic growth.
The PM said he hopes the plan delivers the desired outcome if executed, ‘particularly as this plan is a direct response to the Sibaya mandate.’
“It, therefore, goes without saying that this long-term plan we are here about today must be Grand.
“Because today, as we present it to this august house, we trust it will at least be a good start towards our long walk to Eswatini’s socio-economic freedom,” the PM said.
