Mbabane: As the country is gradually opening the economy, churches will also opened for services under COVID-19 regulations, beginning from May 17,2020.
The announcement was revealed by the Ministry of Home Affairs through a statement where the ministry had a meeting with church leaders and the decision to open churches was taken.
The statement reveals that the churches will only be allowed to be attended by people not exceeding 70 people, observing the coronavirus regulations of 2020. Social distancing should be highly adhered to when attending church services.
Other regulations to be followed include the following:
- No Regional and National Conferences should be allowed.
- Leaders are encouraged to provide screening services in all entry points, in particular in the Red Zoned areas.
- All meetings/gatherings are required to keep attendance registers with attendees residential addresses and contact numbers for contact tracing purposes.
- All venues should be sanitized before or after meetings.
- Services should not exceed 2 hours and shall be held during the day.
The public is still encouraged in observing the precautionary measures given by the ministry of Home Affairs, which include washing of hands regularly with running water and soap, keep social distancing, covering of mouth and nose when sneezing.
On another note the ministry of Home Affairs has also announced that Marriage Services at the Ministry of Home Affairs are now lifted and also marriage functions are allowed at 20 people attendance.
Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe confirmed the statement mentioning that this will be effective as of the Sunday of May 17, 2020.
