London – Iga Swiatek made tennis history on Saturday by claiming her first Wimbledon title in astonishing fashion, thrashing Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes. The emphatic win marked the first double bagel in a Wimbledon final in the Open era and only the second in Grand Slam history since 1968.
The 24-year-old Pole, already a four-time French Open champion and winner of the 2022 US Open, becomes the eighth woman in the Open era to win major titles on all three surfaces—clay, hard, and now grass. It is her sixth Grand Slam title overall, breaking her tie with legends Martina Hingis and Maria Sharapova.
Swiatek’s dominance was absolute from the first ball. Anisimova, playing in her maiden major final, managed just 18 points in the first set and racked up 28 unforced errors as the pressure of the occasion overwhelmed her. Two days earlier, the American had stunned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, but against Swiatek’s relentless pace and precision, she never stood a chance.
This is only the third time a Grand Slam final has ended 6-0, 6-0. The last was Steffi Graf’s win over Natasha Zvereva at the 1988 French Open. The only other double bagel at Wimbledon occurred in 1911, well before the modern era, when Dorothea Lambert Chambers defeated Dora Boothby.
For years, grass was thought to be Swiatek’s weakest surface. Before this fortnight, her best result at Wimbledon had been a quarter-final in 2023, and she had never won a grass-court title. But she dispelled all doubt with a dominant two weeks at the All England Club.
“Honestly, I didn’t even dream [of this] because for me it was just way too far,” Swiatek admitted after the match. “I feel like I’m already an experienced player after winning the slams before, but I never really expected this one. I want to thank my team because they believed in me more than I did.”
Seeded eighth and coming off a dip in form since her French Open win in 2024, Swiatek’s resurgence underlined her resilience and mental toughness. Her ability to peak under pressure continues to define her career, with six wins from her first six Grand Slam finals.
As Anisimova crumbled under the spotlight, Swiatek’s legendary “bakery”—a term used to describe her frequent 6-0 (“bagel”) and 6-1 (“breadstick”) scorelines—was in full operation once again. This wasn’t even her first double bagel in a big final; she had previously done the same to Karolina Pliskova in the 2021 Italian Open final.
