East Rutherford, New Jersey – European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea will battle for global bragging rights on Sunday when they face off in the FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
PSG secured their place in the final with a dominant 4–0 win over Real Madrid, adding to their growing reputation in the tournament. Despite an early stumble in the group stage, Luis Enrique’s side have responded with powerful performances, scoring 16 goals and conceding just one.
Chelsea, who reached the final after seeing off Fluminense, come into the clash as underdogs. The London side will rely on the flair of Brazilian forward João Pedro, who scored twice in the semi-final and has added a fresh spark since joining the club. His battle with PSG’s defence, already weakened by the absence of Willian Pacho, could be pivotal.
One area of concern for Chelsea is the intense pressing style deployed by PSG. Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez is likely to face pressure from the French side’s attack, which caused problems for Real Madrid in the previous round.
The midfield contest will feature PSG’s Fabián Ruíz, coming off a strong Euro 2024 campaign, and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, who has adjusted well to manager Enzo Maresca’s system. Both are known for their late runs into the box and playmaking under pressure.
Ousmané Dembélé’s return to the PSG lineup has added a new dimension to their forward play. Operating as a false nine, he is expected to combine with Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to test Chelsea’s defensive structure with sharp movement and creativity.
