Labour and Social Security Minister Phila Buthelezi met with heads of tertiary institutions and student leaders on Thursday to discuss ways of strengthening collaboration across Eswatini’s higher education sector.
The meeting brought together management from local universities and colleges, along with representatives of student unions, in a session held to address concerns affecting both learners and institutions. Among the key issues raised was a request from students for an increase in government allowances.

Student leaders handed over formal submissions during the engagement, citing rising living costs and the need for more financial support. Officials from the Ministry acknowledged the concerns and indicated they would be considered in ongoing planning.
Institution heads present at the meeting pledged to improve communication channels between students, administrators, and the government. Discussions also touched on future policy alignment, student welfare, and the role of institutions in shaping the national skills pipeline.
