DULLSTROOM, MPUMALANGA – A cross-border tourism campaign involving Eswatini, Mozambique and South Africa kicked off on Wednesday with the opening day of the Triland Excursion, hosted by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) at the Dunkeld Country and Equestrian Estate in Emakhazeni.
The three-day familiarisation tour brings together media practitioners and tour operators from the three neighbouring countries, with the goal of promoting joint tourism marketing and visitor flow within the region.
Welcoming delegates from Eswatini, Mozambique, and Limpopo Province, MTPA Acting CEO Justus Mohlala urged tour operators to use the platform to build networks that strengthen tourism across borders.
Eswatini Tourism Authority CEO Vusie N. Dlamini, who led the delegation from the Kingdom, noted that visitor numbers to Eswatini from South Africa have grown in recent years, partly due to collaborative initiatives like the Triland partnership and major events such as MTN Bushfire. He invited Mpumalanga-based tour operators to explore Eswatini’s golf tourism opportunities, pointing to the country’s frequent tournaments.
Mpumalanga’s Head of Economic Development and Tourism, Immy Serakalala, reflected on the historical connections between the countries, suggesting that such initiatives help restore a shared sense of community and identity that once existed before colonial-era borders.
Mozambique’s contingent was led by Deputy Director of the National Institute of Tourism (INATUR), Gisela Malaule, who expressed eagerness about the sites and activities planned for the group in the coming days.
Representing the MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, MTPA Board Chairperson Victor Mashego extended official greetings to delegates, describing Mpumalanga as “the place of the Rising Sun” and reaffirming the province’s commitment to regional tourism collaboration.
The Triland Excursion will run until Friday, 27 June, featuring site visits across key tourism destinations in Mpumalanga.
