MIDRAND – Floyd Shivambu, the former secretary-general of the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, has claimed that millions are being siphoned from the party’s coffers, even as he faces internal resistance and speculation over his political future.

Speaking during a press briefing at Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand, Shivambu said R7 million was being withdrawn monthly from MK accounts without clear justification. He alleged that former president Zuma is surrounded by individuals who are using his trust to enrich themselves at the expense of the party.

Shivambu, who was recently removed from his secretary-general post after a controversial visit to fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi, said accusations against him stem from what he described as a fabricated intelligence report. The report claimed he was plotting to remove Zuma and had allegedly sought supernatural powers to make people disappear.

He also said there were efforts to prevent his redeployment to Parliament, with party insiders allegedly working to block his return to a national role. “A decision was taken that even this thing of Parliament must not happen,” he said.

While reports suggested he may be expelled, Shivambu insisted he has not resigned and does not plan to leave the party. He said the MK party must not become a family project, a cult, or a vehicle for personal gain.

He accused the party’s leadership of forcing out the treasurer-general to open the door for unchecked withdrawals, warning that such practices risk deregistering the party.

Responding to speculation about his political future, Shivambu ruled out returning to the ANC or EFF, calling the former “directionless” and accusing the latter of being a “cult.” Despite suggesting he may form a new political party, he said such a move would only come after consultation with traditional, religious, and civic leaders.

“I have not resigned from uMkhonto weSizwe and I will never resign from uMkhonto weSizwe,” he said.
