GABORONE – Government officials, investors, and mining stakeholders gathered in Gaborone this morning for the opening of the 2025 Future of Mining Summit, now in its second year. The two-day event is centred around the theme “New Opportunities, Smart Partnerships.”
The summit aims to strengthen collaboration between the private sector and government while drawing investment into Botswana’s mining sector.
Keletsositse Olebile, Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), delivered a presentation on current foreign direct investment (FDI) trends and Botswana’s positioning in attracting new investors. He pointed to renewable energy as one of the fastest-growing and most promising sectors.

Olebile encouraged delegates to explore mineral beneficiation within Botswana rather than relying on raw mineral exports, describing it as a strategic pathway to creating more value and jobs in the country.
He also spoke about the factors shaping investment interest, including regional access, workforce readiness, and stable regulations. He extended an invitation to attendees to return for the Global Expo Botswana 2025, scheduled for October 8–11.
The event was officially opened by Minister of Minerals and Energy, Hon. Bogolo J. Kenewendo, who laid out new reforms and policy strategies aimed at expanding local participation in the mining industry.
