On 13th March 2025, His Majesty King Mswati III officially handed over development projects worth approximately E100 million to cooperatives and communities in the Lubombo Region. These initiatives, funded through the Regional Development Fund (RDF), include vital resources like tipper and dropside trucks, tractors, feedlots, and rental items such as tents, chairs, and cooking pots.

In addition to these, several infrastructure projects funded by the Micro Projects Unit were also handed over. These projects include dip tanks, low-level crossings, roads, grazing land, and community halls that will directly benefit local communities.

His Majesty also launched the E24 million Mpolonjeni water scheme, a collaborative effort between the Government, World Vision, and the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC). The water project is set to provide clean water access to 25,000 people in the Mpolonjeni and Lugongolweni Tinkhundla areas.

Further commitments were made as His Majesty issued a directive for the electrification of the country’s technical centres and the upgrade of running tracks, with funding from the RDF. The King also announced a housing project to support vulnerable elderly citizens, with each Inkhundla set to build 10 houses for the elderly in need.

In his speech, the King paid tribute to the elderly and revealed that the Government is engaging international financial institutions to explore partnerships aimed at enhancing social services in the country.

The handover event took place at the Mpolonjeni Inkhundla, where His Majesty praised it as a model for decentralizing government services, urging that this approach be replicated across the country.
