Eswatini has secured new funding from the World Bank for the ASCENT project, a major step toward achieving universal energy access by 2030. The funding aims to expand electricity access and improve energy infrastructure across the country.
The development was confirmed during a meeting between Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, and World Bank Country Director Ms. Satu Kahkonen. The World Bank delegation included Lead Energy Specialist Mirlan Aldayarov, Country Representative Ike Okorie, Senior Country Economist Marko Kwaramba, and Senior Public Sector Specialist Joana Watkins.
Discussions focused on ongoing projects in the energy and water sectors, as well as potential future collaborations in land management. Ms. Kahkonen assured the government of continued World Bank support and proposed sending experts to assess land management needs.
