Mbabane: After the electricity tariff hike, it’s now water which could be costlier, as Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) has proposed a three-year tariff increase with the 2021/2022 proposal being 3.8 percent.
This is according to the new proposed Water Tariff Increase Regulations 2021 that was tabled by the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Peter Bhembe, in the House of Assembly on Tuesday.
This means that the standard rate per cubic metre for a residential user would be E78.89 and a new connection of water in a diameter of up to 15 metres in length would cost E923.80.
For the 2022/2023 financial year, the corporation has proposed a tariff increase of nine percent with an additional of 10.2 percent for the 2023/2024 financial year.
However, the proposal has to be approved by the state government after it has been debated and adopted by the House of Assembly. Currently, it is with the ministry’s portfolio committee.
According to the citation and commencement of the legal notice, the regulations shall come into effect on the date of publication in a gazette. If the new regulations are passed, they will see the revocation of Legal Notice No.88 of 2018.
