Siphofaneni Inkhundla Member of Parliament, Mduduzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane

Mbabane: Outspoken Siphofaneni Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane has called for police to give answers on the death of Thabani Nkomonye (25) of Ka-Shali, Manzini who was found dead at Nhlambeni along the Manzini- Nhlangano road.

On Friday morning Simelane took to his official Facebook Page demanding answers regarding the latest incidents in the country saying police should provide convincing answers.

“May somebody balance us on this issue? The sooner the better. I just hope what we are reading is not true, but it breaks our hearts that all pointers spell doom. How long must our people die like this? “No-one has justice until everybody has justice,” reads part of Simelane’s post on Facebook.

Simelane expressed his devastation and called for police to clarify to the nation about the recent incidents. He lamented that the dots were not connecting. “How can police release notice for a missing person, when the car he was driving was in their possession? Why are the police quiet and not responding to the allegations that the car was in their possession by the time of releasing a notice for the missing person, and also that Nkomonye met his death in a police chase and his car had bullet holes?” he wondered.

The dots are not connecting, and police must explain this. To this far Magawugawu wondered why police have not released a statement regarding the issue.

Nkomonye’s body was found on Thursday in a decomposed state by his family members and police who were searching for him.

Nkomonye’s picture had gone viral on social media after his family and police reported him missing and circulated a notice requesting members of the public to assist locate him.

According to the notice that was circulated widely, Nkomonye was last seen in Ngwane Park, Manzini at around 9 pm last Saturday. The notice went on to state that he had been driving a Black Mazda Demio with registration number VSD 584 AS when he went missing.

It is alleged that Nkomonye died in a police chase. Thabani’s uncle Sakhile Dlamini who spoke on behalf of the family to the Swaziland News said it is alleged that police came to the scene, towed the vehicle, and took it to Sigodvweni police station. He was quoted as saying the police claimed not to have seen his body. And for some reason, it was not recorded at the police station that the vehicle was on their premises.

MP Simelane said the way people are treated in this country shows that they are treated below human standards. “We are not treated as people in this country.”

Simelane made a reference to a recent incident where a man was shot dead by rangers for allegedly poaching a warthog. The MP wondered if human life was less valuable than the life of a warthog.

Sought for comment, Police Information Communications Officer (PICO) Superintended Phindile Vilakati said police are yet to release a statement regarding the incident. Pressed with further questions, Vilakati opted not to respond until a statement is released by police.
