  • Mandate was given to him when he was sworn in

Mbabane: Incoming Teaching Service Commission (TSC) chairman Dr Amos Mahlalela was on Tuesday told to work towards fighting corruption that has engulfed the commission.

This mandate was given to him when he was sworn in on Tuesday in front of Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Education and Training Bertram Stewart, School’s manager Macanjana Motsa, Dr Hugh Magagula, member of the TSC, SNAT president Mbonwa Dlamini and other officials from the Education ministry.

The swearing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Education and Training boardroom. Leading the swearing ceremony for Mahlalela at the TSC after serving for years at Ngwane Teachers College was Ndabenhle Dlamini representing the attorney general. Mahlalela was appointed last week Friday.

Mahalela will be replacing Simanga Mamba who was then elevated to be the Chairman for the Civil Service Commission (CSC). Mamba served for about 10 years in the Teaching Service Commission.

Stewart said there were a lot of issues that needs to be resolved within the commission, including the unobvious conducts of the commission and corruption. Stewart said Mahlalela and the entire commission will have to work swiftly into resolving all the problems faced by the commission.

The Principal Secretary said another issue that needed the commission to solve was that of teachers who were trained to be secondary or high school teachers but they find themselves teaching in the primary levels. He said another problem was that of teachers who have retired but still earning. He said such problems raise eyebrows when the ministry is being audited.

Meanwhile, Mahlalela said he was grateful to be part of the team that was aware of what needed to be done in the commission.

“Better is a person who knows his weaknesses, better is a better who can point out the challenges faced because that person is well placed to correct those challenges,” said Mahlalela.
