Mbabane – The Government is reviewing four pieces of legislation as part of efforts to improve Eswatini’s business environment, promote local economic participation and attract investment.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba B. Khumalo outlined the reforms during an Editors’ Forum on Legislative and Policy Reforms held at Royal Villas in Ezulwini.
The reforms cover the Liquor Licensing Act, 2023, the Citizens Economic Empowerment Act and Regulations, the Companies Bill and the Special Economic Zones Amendment Bill.
Khumalo said the changes are intended to create a competitive and inclusive economy where emaSwati can participate more actively in business, while supporting investment and employment creation.
He emphasised that the effectiveness of the reforms would depend on their implementation and the impact they have on businesses and citizens.
“A policy is only as effective as its implementation, a law is only as meaningful as its impact, and an opportunity is only valuable when our people can understand and access it,” he said.
The minister said the media had an important role in explaining the legislative changes to businesses, entrepreneurs and the public to ensure they understood the implications and opportunities presented by the reforms.
He called for continued cooperation between the Government and the media to promote informed public discussion, accountability and awareness of economic opportunities.
Khumalo said the reforms would ultimately be judged by the opportunities created, businesses supported, investments realised and jobs secured for emaSwati.
