Mbabane – Former Ngwempisi Member of Parliament Mthandeni Dube has broken his silence over his whereabouts, telling his mother, family members and emaSwati that he is safe and under tight security after leaving Eswatini.
He made the disclosure in a video aired on his Facebook page named Hon. Mthandeni Dube, in which he said he left the country on Sunday after an audio recording allegedly attributed to him was released.
His video comes after his family had publicly expressed concern over his whereabouts, with relatives previously saying they remained in the dark about where he was after he left his homestead.
In a message directed to his mother and other family members, Dube said: “Ngitsi angibike bomzomba kutsi umntfwanenu uphephile,” assuring them that he was safe. He said God and other individuals were taking care of him, including former Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi ‘Gawzela’ Simelane.
His Majesty correctional Services authority had earlier confirmed that it was investigating the recording and the circumstances surrounding his conditional release.
The former legislator further said there was high security around him and that no one could reach him, suggesting that his safety was being closely monitored.
Dube also rejected the narrative that he had fled Eswatini to avoid serving his sentence, insisting that he had no sentence to serve because, in his view, the conviction against him was based on false accusations.
“This narrative that I ran away from serving a sentence in Eswatini is wrong. I just left their sentence for them to serve because it is not mine. Bacede and myself did not commit any crime. So the sentence does not belong to us,” said Dube.
He also issued a warning to correctional officials against searching for him.
“I love peace but I can be deadly when provoked, even to the point of not fearing death but viewing it as joy. So the correctional officials must dare not search for me,” he said.
Dube and former Hosea MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza were convicted in July 2024, with Dube receiving an 18-year sentence. Dube was subsequently released under a Special Royal Pardon in November 2025, subject to conditions including restrictions on political activities, media and social-media participation, leaving Eswatini and changing his residence without approval.
Dube’s latest video therefore provides the first direct account from the former legislator since his disappearance, with his family and the wider public now receiving confirmation from him that he is alive and safe.
