A man suspected of robbing an elderly person at Mantabeni area has died in hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound during a police pursuit.
According to the Royal Eswatini Police Service, Mbabane police received a report of a robbery committed at Mantabeni area on July 2, 2026, in which the suspect allegedly attacked an elderly man.
Officers who attended the scene identified themselves as police officials and moved to apprehend a 30 year old man from the same area believed to be linked to the incident. The suspect refused to comply and attempted to flee.
Police say multiple commands were issued and warning shots were fired in an attempt to stop him, but he continued to evade the officers. As the pursuit continued, he was shot in his left arm.
The suspect was rushed to hospital for medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving care.
