MBABANE – The Ministry of Finance has officially relocated its offices to the sixth floor of the former SASCCO Building on Plot 3161, Libandla Street, marking a significant shift from its long-standing offices along Mhlambanyatsi Road.
In a public notice, the ministry announced that all services and official business would now be conducted from the new premises as it settles into the building.
The ministry advised members of the public, stakeholders and development partners that some services could experience slight delays during the transition period while operational arrangements are finalised. It, however, assured the public that every effort was being made to minimise disruptions and maintain efficient service delivery.
The relocation places one of government’s most critical ministries in a building that has a notable history in Mbabane’s commercial landscape. The former SASCCO Building was initially developed by the Eswatini Association of Savings and Credit Co-operatives as a major office complex but remained unfinished for years after construction stalled due to financial and contractual difficulties. Reports indicate that more than E55 million had already been invested in the project before work was halted.
The property received renewed attention in 2023 when Umlamuli, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF), obtained approval to acquire the building for commercial use. At the time, the acquisition was viewed as a step towards reviving one of the capital city’s long-standing incomplete developments.
The ministry’s move comes amid broader changes in government accommodation arrangements. Several public institutions have been relocating offices in recent years, including the Central Bank of Eswatini, which has been moving its operations to Ezulwini as part of its expansion plans.
