Cape Town – Head of the disbanded Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, has placed evidence before the Ad Hoc Committee investigating Mkhwanazi allegations, which he says proves that embattled businessman Vusimuzi Cat Matlala lied under oath about his possession of Eswatini national identity.

Khumalo told the committee that Matlala denied having a identity document from Eswatini during the hearing and in his bail application, yet records now before the committee show that an identity number was generated in his name under questionable circumstances in Eswatini.

According to Khumalo’s testimony, investigators established that Matlala’s personal identification number was generated on February 12, 2024. The same number was allegedly used to issue an identity book before Matlala’s birth was officially registered.

Khumalo said official records show that Matlala’s birth was only registered eight days later, on February 28, 2024, a sequence he described as legally impossible. He told the committee that under Eswatini law, a birth must first be registered before an identity number can be generated or an identity document issued.

Khumalo further stated that Matlala was not a citizen of Eswatini by birth and that the Eswatini identity in his possession was fraudulently created and issued. He said the evidence directly contradicted Matlala’s earlier claims and raised serious concerns about the integrity of the identification process involved.

The ad hoc committee is continuing to examine the matter as part of its inquiry, with the revelations expected to have implications for both the ongoing proceedings and Matlala’s credibility before the law.
