Mbabane – A 65-year-old man from Luhlendlweni has been arrested and charged in Mbabane in connection with the sexual assault of his three-year-old step-grandchild, police have confirmed.
The alleged incident came to light on November 21, 2025, at about 9 am after the child reported the abuse to an older cousin while at home. At the time, the girl had been left in the care of the suspect by her grandmother, who had gone to attend a funeral.
Police said the suspect spent the night sharing a bed with the child before the alleged assault was disclosed. The child’s father was informed immediately and arrangements were made for the girl to be taken to hospital for a medical examination.
Officers were later called to the homestead, where preliminary investigations were conducted. The suspect was arrested on December 12, 2025, following further police inquiries.
He has since appeared before the Mbabane Magistrates Court, where he was remanded in custody. The matter is scheduled to return to court on January 6, 2026.
Police praised officers attached to the Mbabane Domestic and Child Protection Services for their handling of the case, noting that investigations into sexual abuse and exploitation of children remain a priority for law enforcement in the Kingdom.
