Mbabane – A Ministry of Education driver, Sikhumbuzo Mabuza, has been sentenced for unauthorised use of a government vehicle after police intercepted him on a Sunday trip and discovered dagga in the car.
Mabuza appeared before Mbabane Magistrates Court following the interception of the government quantum he was driving, where police reportedly found 41.4 kilograms of dagga. Three other occupants in the vehicle were also arrested.
The driver denied knowledge of the dagga, insisting he was unaware of the consignment. He did, however, admit to taking the vehicle after official working hours and carrying unauthorised passengers, which breached government regulations.
The court acquitted Mabuza on the dagga possession charge, noting that the State failed to prove he had knowledge or control of the drugs. He was convicted on the remaining counts of vehicle misuse and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of E800 per count.
