The Kingdom of Lesotho celebrated its 59th Independence Anniversary on 4 October 2025 at its residence in New York, United States. The event was hosted by the embassy in Washington, D.C., together with Lesotho’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Basotho communities across the United States.
The celebration featured traditional food, music, and cultural performances, showcasing the country’s rich heritage. Her Excellency Matete ’Nena, Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Lesotho to the UN, addressed attendees including the Basotho diaspora, students, and friends of Lesotho. She reflected on the nation’s journey since independence, its socio-economic challenges, and the aspirations for its future.
The gathering allowed Basotho living in America to honor their independence while celebrating the unity and resilience of their people through cultural expression.
