Maseru – Relations between Lesotho and Russia were reinforced during a credential presentation ceremony at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday. Russia’s Ambassador, Mr. Roman Ambarov, presented his letters of credence to King Letsie III in the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Lejone Mpotjoane and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
King Letsie III described the Ambassador’s presence as a sign of Russia’s commitment to strengthening mutual relations between the two countries. He wished Mr. Ambarov success during his tenure and called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other officials to provide the necessary support.
Ambassador Ambarov pledged to explore avenues for enhancing and developing the economies of both nations. He succeeds Mr. Ilya Rogachev, whose diplomatic mission in Lesotho recently concluded.
Lesotho and Russia have maintained diplomatic relations since 1 February 1980, making 2025 the 45th anniversary of their partnership. Cooperation between the two countries spans international diplomacy, humanitarian aid, education, and culture.
Russia, the world’s largest country by area, has a history dating back to the East Slavs and the establishment of Kievan Rus. The Ambassador’s mission is expected to further develop bilateral ties across these sectors.
