NASREC – Automotive reviewer Khulekani on Wheels attended the launch of Chery’s new Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrid at Nasrec, offering an early look at the SUV’s design, features, and performance.
The Tiggo 9 sports a bold exterior with angular LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, pop-out door handles, animated LED taillights, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it offers a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, panoramic sunroof, and a 50W wireless charging pad. Premium materials are used throughout the cabin.

Under the hood, the SUV combines a 1.5L turbopetrol engine with three electric motors, generating 455kW and 920Nm, paired with a 3DHT gearbox. Chery claims a total range of 1,400km, including 160km on electric power, and fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100km.

Khulekani on Wheels reported that a short drive to Pont De Val revealed smooth ride quality, a quiet cabin, and strong acceleration capable of challenging fast hatchbacks. While the interior is spacious and feature-rich, some features resemble those of the Tiggo 8 Pro, prompting questions about whether the Tiggo 9 offers enough distinction over the Tiggo 8 CSH.
