Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is closing in on a move to Barcelona after reaching a verbal agreement for a season-long loan deal.
Transfer news broke today, Saturday 19th July 2025, when football insider Fabrizio Romano posted that Rashford was expected to undergo medical tests in the coming days, with the final details of the deal being concluded before his trip to Spain.
The 27-year-old England international has been training separately from the first team at United after new manager Ruben Amorim made it clear that Rashford was not part of his plans at Old Trafford. This comes after a failed six-month loan spell at Aston Villa last season, where the option of a £40 million permanent deal fell through.
Barcelona moved quickly for Rashford after missing out on Spain’s Nico Williams, who signed a new deal with Athletic Club, and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz, who was not available for transfer.
Rashford, who has three years remaining on his £325,000-a-week contract, has made 426 appearances for United since debuting at 18 in 2016, scoring 138 goals and helping the club to Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup titles.
The forward has not played for United since December last year, after being left out of the squad in key matches including the Premier League clash against Manchester City. Talks between Rashford, his representatives, and Barcelona are underway, with the deal including a buy option.
