MBABANE – Former Deputy Prime Minister Constance Simelane has died following a short illness. She passed away on Sunday afternoon while receiving care at Mkhiwa Clinic, according to a family member.

Simelane made history in 2006 when she became the first woman to be appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Eswatini. Prior to that, she served as Minister of Education and Training.

News of her death spread quickly across the country, with tributes pouring in for the trailblazing public servant who broke gender barriers in national politics.

Further details surrounding her passing and funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
