MBABANE – Young people were the focus of the “I Choose Safety” campaign held on Monday, where discussions around HIV prevention, teenage pregnancy, sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), and mental health took centre stage.
The event was spearheaded by SAfAIDS in partnership with the Ministry of Health and supported by UNICEF, with the Family Life Association of Eswatini (FLAS) actively participating in the outreach.
Held in Mbabane, the campaign created a platform for adolescents to speak openly and learn about the links between mental health and the life decisions they make, especially in relation to their bodies, relationships, and long-term aspirations.
FLAS facilitators engaged with dozens of teenagers, sharing information that could help them make safer, healthier choices. The organisation said it viewed the campaign as a way to build a generation that is confident, well-informed, and resilient when navigating challenges related to sex, health, and identity.
Organisers said the programme aimed to reduce stigma around mental health and empower young people with practical tools to safeguard their well-being.
