Mbabane – University student Sibongumenzi Ntuli has formally received his first prize award in the Eco Educator category of the EU Re Think Waste Youth Challenge during a handover held on December 15 2025 at the European Union Delegation offices in Mbabane.
Ntuli collected the award from EU Head of Cooperation Eva Maria Engdahl after he was unable to attend the official awards ceremony on December 12 at Sibane Sami Hotel in Ezulwini due to school commitments. The prize package included a cash award, mentorship, a goodie bag and a certificate.
The Re Think Waste Youth Challenge was organised by the European Union in Eswatini in partnership with the EU Eswatini Youth Advisory Board and focused on empowering young people across the Kingdom to become eco educators. The initiative sought to shape how families, schools and communities view waste consumption and circular living, with the broader goal of identifying practical solutions that support a climate smart and environmentally friendly Eswatini.
Participants were required to submit entries that teach smart waste habits, simplify recycling and circular economy concepts and provoke reflection around waste management and sustainability.
The competition was held within the framework of the EU Green Diplomacy Weeks, which took place during October and November, and forms part of a global effort to advance the green diplomacy agenda and promote achievements in international climate action.
Reacting to the award, Ntuli said he was honoured and grateful to have received first prize in the Eco Educator category of the EU Re Think Waste Youth Challenge. He thanked the European Union in Eswatini and the EU Eswatini Youth Advisory Board for creating a platform that empowers young people to drive meaningful change in environmental education.
He said the recognition motivates him to continue promoting smart waste habits, recycling and circular living within communities, adding that the achievement strengthens his commitment to contributing towards a greener, climate smart and environmentally friendly Eswatini.
Ntuli also expressed appreciation to Enactus Entrepreneurial Action for Us Eswatini for sharing the opportunity with Enactus students and for the continued support, mentorship and values instilled in them. He said Enactus has shaped his mindset towards innovation, sustainability and community impact, noting that the achievement reflects the guidance, teamwork and leadership fostered within the Enactus family. He described the award as one for Enactus and thanked everyone who believed in him and supported his journey.
